Doner Designs stopped by out facebook page recently to share an awsome little project they'd been working on and a quick look over their site turned up some pretty amazing stuff, including this NASA guitar signed by James Lovell himself. Think you're panicked when your onstage and forget the next riff? He commanded Apollo 13. Now that's hair raising!
As if that wasn't cool enough, Steve Doner and his son built this guitar for a great cause:
"This one-of-a-kind custom guitar was auctioned at the Make-A-Wish Foundation's Wish Ball at Soldier Field in Chicago on May 3, 2014. The guitar was a donation from Doner Designs to Make-A-Wish meaning that 100% of the proceeds will go toward Make-A-Wish programs and wish fulfillment."
So, put together some awesome looking guitars, use them to make the world a better place and happen to meet Jim Lovell along the way? That's a pretty solid mission statement.
It's got three EMG active/passive pickups in HSH congifuration. From Bridge to Neck: 89X, SAX, 89X.A master tone and three individual volume pots and a Warmoth neck. The addition of a killswitch is both practical and fun. (You know you love to flick the switch on a sustained chord for that Randy Rhodes vibe.)
You can find a bit more info on their page.
Meanwhile, here's a video of the finished product in action:
