The Molto Gliss bass from Bonobo Guitars is a shockingly naked piece of equipment. The maple neck and cherry body peek through a thin layer of protection and the passive MusicMan style pickup is hidden just below the surface of an infinite ebony fingerboard that runs all the way down to and past the hidden bridge.
The simple look of its unadorned body, without even a pot to control it catch your attention immediately and just stick in your brain. In an era where many builders are throwing on switches and knobs at a rate not seen since the sixties, there’s something refreshing about an instrument that dares you to just play. No distractions, no excuses, no futzing around to get the ‘sound’ instead of making music. Plug it in and go. Make the music come from you.
I’d love to see Bonobo really take off with this one. Purely to get it into a shop close enough to me to try it out for myself.
